EMBRY-RIDDLE HOSTS TECHNOLOGY FORUM -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University last week hosted a technology forum at its Daytona Beach
campus. The event featured 18 representatives from major aerospace
research companies, manufacturers and other industry representatives who
came together to review the progress of the Florida NextGen Testbed, a
project governed by the FAA and managed by Embry-Riddle. NextGen’s
purpose is to provide research, integration and testing of concepts to
modernize the national airspace system. Congressman John Mica spent the
day with these industry representatives and hosted a roundtable
discussion with the participants. Volusia County Economic Development
met with the participants regarding development of the ERAU Research
Park and creation of a technology hub at Daytona Beach International

MANUFACTURING SPACE NEEDED -- A medical device manufacturer,
considering Volusia County for relocation, is interested in leasing an
existing building of 50,000 square feet that has expansion potential to
80,000 square feet. The Volusia County Economic Development Division has

FEDERAL RESERVE CREDIT TREND DATA AVAILABLE – The U.S. Federal
Reserve System's economic research web site offers updated interactive
maps on mortgage, student and auto loan delinquency. The maps display
state and county level information and are aimed at increasing the
understanding of national credit conditions. To access the site go to:
federalreserve.gov/econresdata/default.htm and click on the Dynamic
Maps icon. Once there, you can query individual counties by using the
county search tool.
HOUSEHOLD NET WORTH INCREASING --The estimated net worth of the
American household rose again during the first quarter of this year.
This marks the fourth quarter in a row that total household wealth
increased following seven consecutive quarters of decline. Total
household net worth now stands at $54.6 trillion, an increase of $1.1
trillion.
DEFENSE, SECURITY EXHIBITION SET FOR GREECE IN OCTOBER -- Defensys
2010, a defense and security exhibition, will be held from October 28 -
31 in Thessaloniki, Greece, home of a number of NATO and U.S. units. At
least 95 countries are expected to attend to see the latest in military
products and technology. Enterprise Florida is encouraging Florida
manufacturers to participate in the Florida pavilion. In 2009, two local
companies, Raydon and GermFree Laboratories, participated with excellent
results. Grants to subsidize participation may be available through
Volusia

STARTUP COMPANY TAX ISSUES – A seminar focused on tax issues for
startup companies provides legal and financial perspective on many of
the tax issues facing startup and development companies including
federal and state income taxes, property taxes, and sales and use taxes.

SOURCING PROGRAM FOCUSES ON EXPORT MATCHMAKING -- The Florida First
Sourcing Program, a trade promotion initiative of Enterprise Florida,
connects Florida traders with Florida producers by helping exporters
find local, in-state suppliers. It expands opportunities for Florida
suppliers by encouraging traders and purchasing agents to source
products for export to international markets from local providers. For
