COUNTY’S QUARTERLY ECONOMIC BRIEFING FRIDAY – The county’s
Division of Economic Development Friday will hold its quarterly
briefing covering the economic trends of the first three months of this
year. The briefing will be in the Volusia Room at Daytona Beach
International Airport. County Chair Frank Bruno will begin the program
at 8 a.m. Breakfast will be served at 7:45 a.m. For reservations, please

DELAND’S MYSTIC POWERBOATS ACCEPTED TO GROW FL PROGRAM – DeLand-based
Mystic Powerboats is the first Volusia County company to be accepted in
the state’s Grow FL program. Grow FL provides free high-end technical
and business resources to companies that have grown beyond the startup
phase and need access to information and decision-making tools typically
only available to larger companies. A team of highly trained and
experienced analysts will be deployed as consultants and as an extension

COUNTY COUNCIL CONSIDERS ‘STARTUP VOLUSIA’ INCUBATOR PROGRAM – The
Volusia County Council conducted a workshop April 29 to consider how
Volusia County, its five universities and 16 municipalities can
collaborate to assist small startup businesses create sustainable jobs.
The County Council is considering funding for a three-year project where
the county would be the lead agency and coordinate with the universities
and municipalities that wish to participate. The University of Central
Florida, under the leadership of Dr. Tom O’Neal, executive director of
UCF’s business incubation program, would manage the program in
conjunction with its nationally recognized incubator program.
VMA ANNOUNCES MAY PROGRAMS – The Volusia County Manufacturers
Association (VMA) has several business events scheduled during the
month. On May 5 from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. VMA will present a session
titled: Tired of solving the same problem over and over? On May 18, the
VMA, Florida Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and Daytona State
College are hosting a workshop called: Team-based problem solving. It
will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DSC campus in DeLand. VMA’s general
membership meeting May 20 will feature Volusia County School
Superintendent Dr. Margaret Smith who will speak on what our schools are

STATE PLANS TRADE MISSION TO COLOMBIA – Enterprise Florida is
hosting a trade mission to Colombia August 9 - 14. Florida is the main
gateway for commercial ties between the U.S. and Colombia. Participation
is limited to the first 25 qualifying manufacturers. Grants may be
