MISTRAL AIRCRAFT ENGINES AT DBIA – Mistral Engines SA, a Swiss company, has developed a revolutionary rotary aircraft engine which will be tested for FAA certification at Daytona Beach International Airport. Mistral has been working with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s (ERAU) Eagle Works over the last two years as the engine was developed and test flown. The new engine offers high reliability, low maintenance and low noise levels among other advantages. Mistral intends to build a testing facility at the airport, and when the engine is certified by the FAA, also hopes to build an engine assembly facility, too. FLORIDA RANKING IN HOUSE PRICE APPRECIATION – For the four quarters ending June 30, 2007, Florida ranked 45th among the 50 states and the District of Columbia with a gain of 1.29 percent in residential real estate value. EMBRY- RIDDLE SHOWCASES AIRPORT OF THE FUTURE – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University demonstrated the technology for an “airport of the future” at DBIA Nov.14. An aviation consortium led by ERAU showcased emerging technologies in safety, security, capacity, and efficiency, using existing technology to update and improve the air traffic system. Embry-Riddle’s partners include Lockheed Martin, Transtech Airport Solutions, ENSCO, Mosaic ATM, Jeppesen, Boeing and Sensis. The Volusia County Department of Economic Development hosted a luncheon for ERAU, their partners and guests.

SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS IN VOLUSIA TOTAL 1.4 BILLION ANNUALLY – According to the Social Security Administration, 120,890 individuals in Volusia County received $117,363,000 each month – nearly $1.4 billion – from the U.S. Social Security Administration in 2006.

WANT TO BECOME A NOTARY PUBLIC? – Daytona Beach Community College (DBCC) will offer a course on becoming a notary public from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28. Participants will learn the laws a notary needs to abide by, rules for identifying the signers, requirements for electronic notarizations and how to avoid any possible liability from improper notarizations. Did you know that in addition to verifying signatures, notaries can perform marriages in Florida? IT PAYS TO DO BUSINESS IN VOLUSIA – The cost of doing business in Volusia County is one-third that of New York and less than half than in Miami. According to FORBES Magazine's Special Report (April 5, 2007), the Deltona, Daytona Beach, DeLand MSA ranks number 66 nationwide in the cost of doing business. The index is based on the cost of labor, energy, taxes, and office space. Miami ranks 150, and New York City ranks highest at 200.

EMERGENCY PLANNING MADE SIMPLE – A free workshop designed for smaller to medium-sized businesses and non-profits will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Volusia County Emergency Operations Center.
