COUNTY UPDATING OUTSOURCING GUIDE – The Volusia County
Department of Economic Development is updating its guide to
manufacturing outsourcing services in Volusia County. Products,
components and subassemblies produced in Volusia County can be found in
some demanding applications including the space shuttle, hospitals and
automobiles. The Department of Economic Development actively promotes
Volusia companies to other manufacturers through a printed guide and on
its internet website

VMA MEETING TO FOCUS ON QUALITY MANAGEMENT – The Volusia
Manufacturers Association (VMA) is hosting a breakfast meeting Tuesday,
November 13, in the Volusia Room at Daytona Beach International Airport.
The focus will be on quality management with Christoffer Mannting of
Gambro discussing new techniques to ensure quality and reliability in
manufacturing, particularly a methodology called Failure Modes and
Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree analysis which allows companies

WORKMEN’S COMPENSATION RATES DECLINE – Worker’s compensation
rates paid by Florida manufacturers will drop 17.5 percent next year.
Since worker compensation reforms were enacted in 2003, rates have
dropped nearly 50 percent for the manufacturing sector.
AMUSEMENT PARKS, ATTRACTIONS EXPO UPCOMING -- The annual
conference and trade show of the Association of Amusement Parks and
Attractions will be held next week at the Orange County Convention
Center in Orlando. More than 1,100 manufacturers of video and arcade
games and other entertainment products will show off their products

LASER PRODUCTS MANUFACTURER SEEKS NEW FACILITY – The county’s
Department of Economic Development is negotiating with a manufacturer
seeking 50,000 square feet of production space. The company plans to
relocate to a larger facility within the next 12 - 18 months. If you

for immediate construction of a new manufacturing facility, please

CONSUMER PRICE INDEX INCREASES -- The U.S. Department of Labor,
Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the Consumer Price Index for All
Urban Consumers (CPI-U) for September. Based on this report, costs have
increased 2.8 percent since September 2006. This index is used widely in
escalation agreements to adjust payments for changes in prices. The
CPI-U often is used in collective bargaining agreements, rental
contracts, insurance policies with automatic inflation protection, and
alimony and child support payments.

INDUSTRIAL REAL ESTATE TRENDS UP -- While recognizing the malaise
in the housing sector as it struggles with over supply and falling
prices, the Urban Land Institute's (ULI) recently published 2008
Emerging Trends in Real Estate report remained upbeat on the overall
steadiness of the industrial sector and noted that industrial activity
is up overall and vacancy is dropping. For additional information,
