COUNTY COUNCIL OK’S $6.5-MILLION INDUSTRIAL REVENUE BOND ISSUE – The Volusia County Council has approved the issuance of $6.5 million in industrial revenue bonds for Intellitec Crossings. The company will use the bonds to construct a 64,000-square-foot industrial facility at DeLand Crossings Industrial Park on I-4 near DeLand. Construction of the new facility is expected to begin by the end of the year. Intellitec Crossings will consolidate the company’s Florida and Illinois operations upon completion of the facility in mid-2008 and will employ approximately 100 workers.

DEVELOPER NEEDED FOR JOINT PROJECT – The county Department of Economic Development has an opportunity to provide a “build-to-suit” proposal to an office/manufacturing prospect that requires a 125,000-square-foot facility to accommodate administrative, research and production space for a defense manufacturer of simulation products. The company is requesting lease proposals for sites only in the Port Orange and Daytona Beach area. MANUFACTURING EXHIBITION AT ATC – More than 75 manufacturers and support organizations will be exhibiting at the Advanced Technology College in Daytona Beach September 27 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The exhibition will showcase employment opportunities and trends among the area’s manufacturers. In addition to the exhibitors, 20 workshops will be presented by representatives from the SBA, area accounting firms, OSHA, Florida Department of Environment Resources, and other manufacturing professionals from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Topics include financing options for manufacturing, product costing methods, labor law, government contracting, rapid prototyping and supervisory training. WORKSHOP ON INCREASING PROFITS -- The Small Business Development Center will present a workshop called Apply Common Sense to Increase Profits. The event will be Wednesday from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Advanced Technology College, Daytona Beach. Topics include attracting/keeping good employees; reducing turnover; keeping ahead of competition; evaluating processes/procedures; understanding/responding to customer needs; identifying hidden costs and increasing profits. VOLUSIA COUNTY AVERAGE ANNUAL WAGE IMPROVES -- The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, recently released occupational wage data for major metropolitan areas throughout the United States for 2006. According to the data, the average annual wage for all occupations in Volusia County is $32,470. This is a 3.6-percent increase over the 2005 average annual wage of $31,340. This increase in overall average annual wages exceeds an inflation rate of 3.2 percent, as measured by the U.S. Consumer Price Index.

COUNTY PURCHASING SUPPORTS AREA BUSINESSES – During the 2006/2007 fiscal year, Volusia businesses received $171 million in contracts and purchases from Volusia County Government. These expenditures went to 384 local companies that provide goods and services ranging from equipment rentals, automotive products, gasoline, professional services, engineering, office supplies, construction, and printing.

WILDFIRE IMPACT BEING CALCULATED -- Volusia is one of 16 counties where the state is identifying economic injury to businesses, including agriculture, from the wildfires of 2007. If your business was impacted by the wildfires, please contact the county Department of Economic Development. Information will be forwarded to the Governor’s Office in an effort to justify a declaration of Economic Injury to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). If approved, SBA resources will be available to help with operating funds for businesses adversely impacted.
