INDUSTRIAL REVENUE BONDS ISSUED TO NEW MANUFACTURING PROJECT – The Volusia County Industrial Development Authority approved a resolution for $6.5 million in industrial revenue bonds on behalf of NSI Intellitec Products, a manufacturer of specialty vehicle electronics. The IRB will be used to construct a new manufacturing plant at the county’s industrial park at DeLand Crossings along I-4 near DeLand. NSI plans to begin construction of the company’s new facility in the near future. In other business, the IDA also approved bonds on behalf of the West Volusia YMCA in the amount of $9 million to facilitate the construction of a new YMCA in the City of DeBary and expansions to the existing facilities in DeLand and Deltona.

PRESENTATIONS DESIGNED TO DISCUSS AVAILABLE CAPITAL, MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS - Florida Capital Bank and McColl Partners will be hosting a breakfast and luncheon presentation focusing on the current capital markets and mergers and acquisitions. Two presentations are scheduled at 8 a.m. and noon, Wednesday, August 22, at the new Florida Capital Bank, 1305 Beville Rd., Daytona Beach. The presentations are designed for companies experiencing annual sales in excess of $20 million. The presentations will highlight the record levels of available capital, mergers and acquisition activity in the market; those key industries that are "in favor" and discuss strategic alternatives for privately held companies. McColl Partners was founded by Hugh McColl, former chairman of Bank of America. McColl Partners has developed unique investment banking expertise working with family/entrepreneur-owned businesses and closely held public companies. NASA MANUFACTURING OPPORTUNITIES - A special forum designed to show small companies how to take advantage of manufacturing opportunities set aside by commercial entities and NASA in the NASA Constellation Program, will be August 23 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Cocoa Beach from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with networking to follow. BEST MARKETS FOR WOMEN IN BUSINESS - The Deltona/Daytona Beach Metropolitan Area ranked 50th in the top 100 areas in the United States for women-owned businesses by a BizJournal study. Based on 2002 Census data, the Volusia County market had 10,202 women-owned businesses generating annual sales revenues of over $1.378 billion. Forty-four percent of the management and professional jobs were held by women. Among Florida metro areas only Miami/Fort Lauderdale (#16), Orlando (#37) and Lakeland (#41) ranked higher. The Volusia County market outperformed Cape Coral/Fort Myers ranked 60th, Jacksonville ranked 67th, and the Palm Bay/Melbourne area, which ranked 96th.

AREA MANUFACTURERS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN TRADE SHOW - Local manufacturers are invited to participate along the County’s Department of Economic Development in the 2007 Assembly New England Trade Show, October 30 - 31 at the Boston Convention Center. This new 500-exhibitor event will deliver a combined audience of nearly 7,500 design and manufacturing professionals looking for new suppliers, ideas, innovations and solutions. FORUM ON LEAN MANUFACTURING SCHEDULED - The Manufacturing Operation Division of the Volusia Manufacturers Association (VMA) is hosting a lean manufacturing seminar August. 21. Speaker Chris Harris, MBA, of Harris Lean Systems Inc., will present on the topic of “Creating Continuous Flow: it’s not just about moving machines close together.” Engineers and manufacturing professionals who would like to learn how to significantly reduce production cycle time should register by noon August 14. DAVINCI PARTNERSHIP RECEIVES ITS FIRST APPLICATIONS – The Da Vinci Partnership, an economic development initiative between Volusia County and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has received its first requests for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) proposals from two local electronics manufacturers and medical device start-up. The Partnership provides technical assistance for developing SBIR proposals designed to generate federal funding to support commercialization of new technologies.
