WILL EMPLOYERS BE READY FOR THE AGING FLORIDA WORKFORCE? -- Productivity is a composite of many factors, but it all boils down to assets -- human assets. Over many years, businesses have evolved solutions to productivity issues, but the foundation upon which all of those solutions is based is about to change radically. The Economic and Demographic Research Unit of the Florida Legislature projects that from 2000 - 2010, Floridians 45 - 64 will increase 45 percent, and the 65-plus population will increase 25 percent.  The two fastest-growing, five-year age groups during that period will be 55 - 59 (up 55 percent) and 60 - 64 (up 58 percent).   During the same period, the Florida population 25 - 44 will increase only 7 percent, and the state’s 35-39 population actually will decline 4 percent. In other words, Florida employers will be scrambling to find workers within the age groups they traditionally have gone after.
