FED SCREENERS AT DBIA GET HIGH MARKS – Federal
Transportation Security Administration security screeners at Daytona
Beach International Airport have received an overall score of 89 percent
in customer satisfaction, according to a survey conducted by McLean,
Virginia, based BearingPoint Inc. In addition, DBIA passengers said they
had a 95 percent confidence level in the security process at DBIA and a
92 percent satisfaction response in the courtesy of the screeners.
LOCAL FIRM SUPPORTS THE U.S. ARMY IN IRAQ – Miller-Leaman,
a manufacturer of water purification systems, is shipping four water
purification units to Iraq. A contract for almost $1 million calls for
the units to take raw water from the Tigris River and produce 100
gallons per minute each of drinking water. The pumps run on 380 volts
and filter, chlorinate, and purify the water using ultraviolet (UV) as
part of the process. According to Chris Shuster, Vice-president of Sales
and Marketing, the complete system was engineered and manufactured here
and is the first large system turned out by the company for such a
difficult environment and use. The company is on Orange Avenue in

FLORIDA BUSINESS LEADERS, UNIVERSITY RESEARCHERS TO TALK
TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER -- The Second Annual Florida Tech Transfer
Conference will be held at the Hilton Walt Disney Resort Hotel May
18-19. Last year, more than 400 people gathered and discovered more than
100 new technologies emanating from the 11 Florida research
universities. Representatives of the most promising spinoff companies
from research centers will showcase their cutting-edge research in
information technology, homeland security/defense, biotechnology and
lasers and optics. Conference participants will discuss innovative ways
to bridge the gap between the laboratory and the marketplace. The event
is being hosted by the Florida Research Consortium, Tampa Bay Technology

SPRING CLEANUPS UPCOMING -- March, April and May are the
focus months for sprucing up our roads, rivers, neighborhood and ocean
venues. Pride in the appearance of our community is the backbone of a
good self image and is the first impression we convey to those visiting
or contemplating moving to our area. Volunteers are welcome in all of
these projects, be they in city or county cleanups or venues such as the
adopt-a-road, adopt-a-beach, or adopt-a-park program. Initiatives coming

BUSINESS FAIR SET FOR DELTONA -- The Chamber of Commerce
of West Volusia will host Business Fair 2005 – A Day At The Club on
Saturday, June 4. Business participants and attendees will be able to
learn about the businesses and services offered by the West Volusia
business community. The event will include prize drawings, live jazz and
an art exhibit sponsored by the DeBary Art League. The event will be at

FED DOLLARS TO HELP PAY FOR TERMINAL DEBT -- Daytona
Beach International Airport will receive $6.27 million from the Federal
Aviation Administration to help pay for construction of its terminal in
1992. The funds will be advanced in three installments according to U.S.
Representative John Mica in an announcement made earlier this month.
