Ocean Center
expansion on time, on budget
The $76-million Ocean Center expansion project is progressing on
schedule and on budget, with an anticipated completion date of late
2008, with renovations to the convention center’s existing building
to be completed after that.
Ocean Center Director Rick
Hamilton recently addressed the Tourist Development Council
and said the last of the steel shipments were on schedule and
concrete walls and glass were being erected. He also commented that
good weather has helped keep schedules intact.
The current facility is
225,000 square feet. When the expansion is complete, the complex will
have an additional 227,491 square feet, creating the opportunity for
the venue to host larger and more frequent meetings, conventions and
events. Walls, floors, ceilings, bathrooms and other areas in the
existing facility will be renovated to match the interior of the
expansion project.
